Client Training Program: John Hinkle


John has been with OPEX Columbia since November 2016. John is a great example of why Individually Designed Fitness is far beyond any other model in the fitness industry. John does not have too much "free" time, he is a 38-year-old father of 12 (yes, 12) and is also an engineer.

John came to us with a few goals...

  1. Use fitness as an outlet and continue to enjoy the process of training.
  2. Compete in functional fitness competitions.
  3. Prioritize health and wellness while improving performance markers.

After taking John through an assessment and aligning his goals with his priorities, John's fitness journey began. Over the past 7 months, John has seen some serious improvements across the board. Weightlifting positioning, gymnastics capacity, energy systems training, amongst other markers.

John just came off of a 5-week accumulation cycle where he only weight-trained 3x per week to lower stress due to a big project at work. We used this as an opportunity to drop some body fat (2%+), improve snatch, clean and front squat positioning, improve Handstand Push-Up and Muscle-Up density and put on a bit of muscle mass (1 1/2lbs+).

We used John's other two training days to improve his sustainability on the flywheel bike and to recover and touch on skills.

The cycle went great for John, he came out of it feeling good, positions improved and gymnastics are feeling smooth! We will now switch his focus to improving strength markers and add back in some lactic work.
